Rape, What happening and what’s being done about it

The article called “Our daughter is dead. We’re the surviving victims’: rape, bullying and suicide, after a viral flood” by Jessica Valenti was quite interesting. Glen Canning was the father of his daughter who was unconscious, raped, and she was taken a picture naked which later was distributed around her school. Her daughter’s name was Rehtaeh Parsons, she was laughed at after this event happened which caused her to kill herself because she could not handle the embarrassing attention she got. This article shocked me in certain ways like when she reported it to the police but they did not do anything to help her even when she had a picture of her naked from the waist down and the guy raping her. Another victim who was unconscious and raped was named Audrie. She was a 15-year-old girl who went through the same thing as Rehtael and she also killed herself and caused an uproar of what happened to her and the suspects. The suspects were juvenile so they could not say their names which I personally believe is a bunch of crap because people like these should lose their rights for such an offense. These two juveniles were given a ridiculously low amount of time to serve in jail. Two young juveniles received 30 days in juvenile detention and one was given 45 days, they even got to serve it on the weekends which sounded just ridiculous and pathetic. Their needs to be changes to help prevent this kind of events, things like giving a higher sentence for rape and they should help the victims.
